Inkscape laser cutting font
I have to add here that the last "super high tech" cutter I was ever involved with worked by following a scaled physical template! It used an oxy-acetylene torch and even by the late 1990's was cheaper to just pay the steel merchant to do the cutting for us, most of the time! Any recommendations? I'm hoping for a free open source program or relatively cheap (like under $200). Yes that parts are just 1/4" aluminum plate with various wording cutout from it in different fonts.

I'm not sure about other lasercut materials such as plastics, as the machines and software used will be different.

At my previous employer we tried specialized software to convert splines to polylines, and usually it will convert in straight line segments instead of arcs. It's tedious and a general PITA, but there is no choice to do it that way. Believe me, I know, I had to do this many times over the years. This means you'll need to retrace all the letters with polylines / arc segments only.

If you intend to have them laser cut in steel/stainless steel/aluminum, you need to know this: I think before going any further it is important to answer this question: what do you plan to do with these parts? Are there any other open source CAD programs ya'll know of that could do it? Sicivic89 wrote:Well, I'm really trying to make some flat plate parts with various wording cut out of it.
